Up the British!

Sir,
From across the Atlantic I must tell you how proud I am of British Leyland’s latest American television advertisement for the TR6. In days where we are shown endless cars crashing into walls at walking pace speeds and Volvos doing the same at 50 m.p.h., you can imagine the joy of watching the TR6 driving smartly around the wall to the commentary of “in England we concentrate on missing the wall”. Wonderful!

To hear that Jaguar’s sales are increasing at a “good clip” while everybody else is struggling is very pleasing.

Your editorial observations on speed limits are opinions I happen to agree with, so imagine the situation here of six-lane highways and a 55-m.p.h. overall limit, but let me add that the average US-made car is very dangerous at even 55 m.p.h. unless of course you remember to not use the brakes more than once a mile and slow down for curves.

Thank you for your excellent magazine.
