Bugatti OC Opening Rally

My wife and I were honoured to receive invitations to the 1977 Opening Rally and Prize-giving of the Bugatti OC. This took place, as usual, at the Chateau Impney Hotel at Droitwich. The car-park was not exactly conspicuous for the number of Bugattis it held, as there was no beauty-show this time, but the lunch was very well supported. Afterwards A.W. Rippon, in the Chair, was in fine form and Isobel Willis, herself a racing driver, presented the very fine array of silverware prize trophies possessed by this Club. The silver GP Bugatti Victor Ludorum Trophy went to J.J. Virr. Some of these splendid trophies have nostalgic names-the Brackenbury Trophy, the Staniland Trophy, the Percy Fawcett Challenge Trophy, the Rolt Trophy, and the Birkett Cup, etc. Not forgetting the Elizabeth Junek, Stubberfield, Kenneth Bear, Jean Bugatti, Bachelier and Monro trophies, etc. John Willis was presented with two big cut-glass decanters bearing the Bugatti radiator emblem, on his retirement after toiling as the Club’s Hon. Treasurer since 1967 —WE.
