From Michelin, via Hamlyn Publishing, comes a pair of road atlases for touring in France, one soft, the other hard-backed.

The former (£7.95) covers the whole country (including Corsica) at l:200,000 (over 3 miles to the inch ), with route-planning maps, index, town plans, and two large maps of Paris, all in 200 large-format pages.

The hardback is more of a home reference. with extra town plans and information, but on 352 smaller pages at £15.00. Both are based on the excellent Michelin map series, and contain much ancilliary information. GC

Bravely ignoring his degree in industrial design after discovering night rallies in a Renault 8, GC joined Motor Sport by accident, in the Teesdale days around 1982 when Jenks and WB were office regulars and Mr Tee ruled with a rod of cardboard. He took part in some of the early historic rallies, winning one of the Pirelli Marathons, and regularly runs his Mk2 Jaguar in road events.
