Kit cars and replicas

Sir,
I must, as a member of The Frazer Nash Section of the VSCC, protest at Mr Graham wishing to change the dictionary definition of the word ‘replica’ —who does he profess to be anyway?

Frazer Nash, as a company, used the word Replica as the model name of two of their cars, one pre-war, one post-war. The TT Replica and The Le Mans Replica — both copies of the car made by them which took part in these events, and available to the motoring public. They were copies made by the original manufacturer (see dictionary definition).

Can I suggest, Mr Graham, we all refer to kit cars as “kit cars” — sounds good enough to me. I suspect Jenks may also agree. Try changing history.
