Silver screen Can-Am

Sir,

As with many folks out there I have reached a mid-life crisis, and would like to relive some of the great times and memories of the original 1966-74 Can-Am era.

In my bid to accomplish this quest, I have been aided by some fabulous books on the Can-Am cars and races by Pete Lyons, Dave Friedman, Eoin Young and Karl Ludvigsen. But there is no substitute for colour, sound and motion. Therefore, I’m anxious to see films of this era.

I know that there have been some nice recent releases of the Can-Am reunion races; however, I am trying to find footage of the original events. I know that ABC aired some races, such as Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohio in ’71, and that there are some early ’65-66 films of Laguna Seca and Riverside offered by Dick Wallen.

Nonetheless, I know that a company filmed most races — at least of the ’66-69 seasons — and these were produced by Triangle Films of Philadelphia. These would be big sellers to offer in VHS or DVD format.

Given the success of Can-Am books and the age of any likely consumers, surely these films would be successful. Can anyone of the many readers out there help me locate any such footage, or determine its owners?

I am, yours, etc
