Wickens takes up winning ways in F2

Canadian Robert Wickens has become the first international F2 race winner in almost a quarter of a century.

Wickens won both races on the rebirth of Formula 2 as a one-make series at Valencia at the end of May. His victories came nearly 25 years after Philippe Streiff’s triumph in the final race of the original European F2 Championship at Brands Hatch in September 1984.

Red Bull Junior driver Wickens dominated the Spanish weekend aboard his Audi-engined, Williams-built F2 car. He qualified on pole and led both races from start to finish.
