Robbed of a classic finish

Robbed of a classic finish

Sir,

I have just watched the Monaco Grand Prix, and after seeing Sebastian Vettel disappear into the distance I assumed that the result would probably be a foregone conclusion. Thankfully I was mistaken, and we were treated to the wonderful sight of three World Champions about to engage in a truly classic finish, especially as in three laps Vettel’s tyres were going to be completely shot.

Sadly, as we know the race was stopped, but to my utter disbelief the teams were allowed to work on the cars resulting in Vettel having a new set of tyres — and that was the end of that! What a terrible shame. How to ruin what surely would have been a Monaco classic. Is this really in the rulebook? Peter Haynes, Needing worth, Cambridgeshire
