Running order

Sir, Thanks for a marvellous July issue, particularly the stunning Le Mans colour photos. The parting shot of the 1973 Monaco GP brought back fond memories, although I’d like to point out a slight error. The car following Hulme’s

Yardley-M23 and Amon’s Martini-Tecno up the hill to Casino Square is not Pace’s Surtees but Wilson Fittipaldi’s Brabham-Ford BT42. Following further down to St Devote are Ganley (ISO), 1972 winner Jean-Pierre Beltoise (BRM P160 V12), Mike Hailwood (Surtees T514), Jean-Pierre Jarier (March 731G), Peter Revson (McLaren M23), Arturo Merzario (Ferrari 312 B3 V12), then (very likely) James Hunt (March 731G) and Carlos Reutemann (Brabham BT42). The race was won by Jackie Stewart’s Tyrrell from Emerson Fittipaldi (JPS-Lotus 72) after a late attack by the reigning champion. Only those two completed the full 78-lap distance.
