ROUND THE WORLD ON SIDECARS.

On 30th August last two riders, B. H. Cathrick and J. P. Castley, each mounted on a specially built 8 h.p. B.S.A. and box sidecar, set off from London in an attempt to ride round the world and so to prove that British motor-cylces are the finest made.

The earlier parts of the journey have now been successfully covered, and by the time these words appear the European section should have been completed. When last heard of, the pair were at Vienna, having reached the Austrian capital in schedule time. In Vienna they were met by a large and enthusiastic body of motor-cyclists, were welcomed officially by the President of the Austrian Automobile Club, and were besieged by local journalists. Two days later they set off for Budapest, in good condition and high spirits.

From a point of view of export trade, the more important countries lie beyond Europe, and it is there which the intrepid pair will shortly be visiting. Through Asia, their route leads, by land and sea to Australia, which they cross from Freemantle to Sydney. A sea trip then takes them to New Zealand, which they traverse from South to North before embarking for Valparaiso. The last land stretch is across South America to Buenos Aires, a boat then returning them to London.

The whole trip is scheduled to take 14 months, and the riders’ equipment includes camping kit, rifles and the like. Wild rough country will at times be crossed, and the dangers of the journey can scarcely be exaggerated.
