Miniatures news, December 1973

A new range of metal miniatures kits is visualised by Mikansue, who have already issued one for a Jowett Javelin saloon. This sells for £2.95, overseas postage 15p, and nicely captures the allure of this once-advanced British 11-litre car. The maker’s address is Bell Lane, Eton Wick, Windsor, Berkshire and they plan future kits covering the Bristol 401, which should be out this month, followed by some vintage commercial vehicles early next year. They are also agents for the John Day kits, of which the latest is a wire-wheeled Type 59 GI’ Bugatti. Very nicely detailed, with dumb-iron tie-bar, outside handbrake, fuel-fillers, steering track-rod and drag-link, etc., rear-view mirror, outside exhaust-pipe, reversed 4-elliptic back springs and so on, this makes a good companion to the Auto Replica’s Brescia Bugatti model.

Future John Day offerings are to include a 1935 Ulster Aston Martin, UOP Shadow, an early BRM, and an SS 100. Mikansue also publish Modellers’ World which contains information about past and present motor vehicle miniatures.—W.B.
