Unlikely number

In Modern Times (October issue) Simon Taylor states that car number 13 was never used in Formula One racing for superstitious reasons’. This is not the case, as Mexican driver Moises Solana had 13 painted on his Scuderia Centro Sud BRM P57 during the Mexican GP of 1963, the one and only time in grand prix history.

A year before, Dutch amateur Count Card Godin de Beaufort was seen at Zandvoort in his Porsche 718 sporting 13 during practice. He did not use the ‘unlucky 13’ during the race, however.
