Nearly 40 years of British rally history ended on the Wales Rally GB when a Mini Cooper competed for the final time. Neil Burgess and joumalist Jim Holder came home 39th and last on the final occasion that an original Mini was eligible for a World Rally Championship round. Rauno Aaltonen won the RAC Rally in 1965 in a Cooper S.

David Brodie marked 40 years of racing by contesting the 8 Clubs Revival events during the BRDC’s Winter meeting at Silverstone in November. Brodie made his racing debut at the 1963 8 Clubs meeting.

David Leslie returned to Formula Ford 1600 for the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone. He reacquired his 1977 Royale RP24 in the 1990s and has totally restored it. Despite racing against far more modern cars, he took advantage of wet conditions to finish third in the final.
