Maserati makes its mark on Goodwood

More than 100 classic Maseratis travelled from seven countries, including Australia, for the recent International Rally hosted by the Maserati Club UK.

The event began at Goodwood with a track day for classic road cars and a few racers. On day two a road route through the Sussex countryside took participants to the Glyndebourne estate, before returning to Goodwood House for a magnificent reception and dinner. The new Maserati GranCabrio was on display, fresh from its UK premiere.

On the final day participants tackled the hillclimb outside Goodwood House, for which I joined Sir Stirling Moss in his 1957 Osca FS 372. The Concours D’Elegance also took place outside the main house, which was won by Sicilian father-and-son team Roberto and Antonino Ricciardello with their black Maserati Shamal. Sir Stirling presented their prize – a model of the CMC Maserati Birdcage mounted in a special presentation case.
