PAUL RICARD, SEPTEMBER 5-7
Following three days of testing, it was time for more Peter Auto action, racing four cars with John Emberson: Morgan SLR; Chevron B26 Chocolate Drop (second place and fastest lap); Chevron B19 (won our class and fastest lap); and Corvette C6.R GT2. I love Ricard. It was where Ronnie Peterson got his first grand prix win – 1973 French GP – so it’s always special going down there.

GOODWOOD REVIVAL, SEPTEMBER 12-14
It never disappoints, does it? This time I was with John Spiers and his Shelby Cobra in the Stirling Moss Trophy. We were delighted to finish fourth – and it was funny for me that in fifth was six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon. I’ve been a fan of his for many years.

CREMONA, SEPTEMBER 16
Popped over to Italy for another day of testing in Rolf Sigrist’s Shadow DN5 at a circuit new to me. I’d only seen Cremona on TV for World Superbikes. A lovely circuit, similar to Snetterton in some ways. A great mix of corners and a long back straight.

DONINGTON PARK, SEPTEMBER 17
A day with Chris Beighton and his new Ferrari 296 Challenge car. It’s 21 years since I raced with Chris at Goodwood for the first time. I was coaching him because he’s doing the Ferrari Challenge UK next year in this car run by AF Corse. It’s his first time in a modern car and the Ferrari is just fabulous.

CASTLE COMBE AUTUMN CLASSIC, SEPTEMBER 20-21
John Spiers and I led in his Lister Knobbly… until the battery went flat. We did the Gerry Marshall Trophy in John’s Hermetite Capri, took pole, but failed a noise test and couldn’t take the race start! But the highlight of our day was the Jack Sears Trophy, for which John wheeled out his Lotus Cortina, inset. And we won – my 200th outright race victory. The first? That was June 1989, Snetterton, in Formula First!
