Letters from Readers, February 1966

Sir,
Referring to p.961 of the November issue of your excellent magazine, there is a point which I would question in your report of the V.S.C.C. Welsh Rally and Trial. This concerns Mellor’s 18/80 M.G. 2-seater. This car, being a Mk. II, would have a 4-speed gearbox fitted with a remote-control gear lever, of the type you describe. I enclose a photograph of the part in question. The “blanking plate” is actually the oil filler, and access to selector forks. The Yale lock was an anti-thief device. The Mk. 1, of course, had the 3-speed gearbox with long Morris-type gear lever.
