Out of the past, February 1977

The pictures published last month under this heading have caused considerable correspondence. It can now be revealed that the car in picture 1 was an Enfield, in picture 2 a Paris Show Darracq, that Bedford’s Hillman in picture 4 was competing at Penkridge Bank near Rugby and that the aeroplane was a Sopwith Salamander. The last-named was not, in fact, war-time loot. It was bought for a nominal sum by Mr. C. A. Potter’s father from Castle Bromwich War Disposals unit and was being dismantled, not rebuilt We arc asked to make it clear that the Daimler in picture 10 was HM the late Queen Mary’s photographed outside Castle Bromwich Hall when Her Majesty was staying there with the then Dowager Countess of Bradford.—W.B.
