Alfa Romeo (GB) Limited seem determined, on a “do or die” course to improve their share of the UK market this year. From the beginning in January, a new 5-year anti-corrosion guarantee applies to all new cars sold and the AlfaPlus extended guarantee scheme has been revised and renamed Alfa Cover. Gone are the parts vouchers of the old scheme which caused much confusion both to the customer and the dealer, while free road-side assistance, can recovery and car hire all add up to helping customers become mobile as quickly as possible after a breakdown. The customer also has the option to purchase a further year or two year’s cover for maim components. Providing this decision is made within the first nine months of ownership, giving a total of three years warranty. This is in addition to the five year anti-corrosion guarantee (which is dependent on the owner remembering to take his car for a corrosion protection check every year).

In addition, a new used car guarantee scheme has been introduced, aimed at improving the secondhand value of Alfa Romeo products and helping Alfa Romeo dealers to dispose of secondhand stock. Further assistance for both dealer and customer comes from a Lloyds syndicate special Alfa Romeo insurance scheme and the formation of a new finance company, in conjunction with Mercantile Credit, to provide the best possible credit terms,

However, it is the improvements to the cars for 1982, at little or no extra cost, which will make the Alfa Romeo range that much more attractive to the owner-driver. All Alfasuds now come complete with stereo radio/cassette players and the very aggravating boot release control has at last been transferred from the passenger side of the car to become readily accessible to the driver. The Ti versions of the ‘sud benefit from new alloy road wheels at no extra cost. The Alfetta now has the radio/cassette player as standard, and the GTV 6 shows most improvement in specification for no extra cost having a sunshine roof, electric windows and on improved dashboard.

The deal looks to be excellent value, always providing the company will be there in three years time to honour those extended guarantee claims… — P.H.J.W.
