Historic F3s

Sir,
I have recently taken an interest again in the 500cc Formula Three racing cars of the 1950s. Last season I had the opportunity to drive a 1954 Triumph-engined Martin Special in several historic events. I have now acquired a 1951 Triumph-engined JBS which needs a total rebuild.

From my initial researches I find that there were 13 cars built for the 1951 season (including Alf Bottoms’ works car) and one or two in 1952. So fart have traced two in the UK (including mine) and five in Australia and New Zealand. I would like to account for the rest and would be very pleased to hear from any of your readers who have information as to their current whereabouts, details of past owners, history and photographs, etc. I am very keen to establish a permanent record of this interesting make.

This season should see quite a number of 500s racing with the Formula Junior cars in the Formula Junior Championship organised by the Monoposto Racing Club. Anyone wanting further information should contact me or the secretary, Suzy Livingstone.
