Flattery

(Nearly) forty years on, when afar and asunder… We at Motor Sport are flattered to learn, from the BRDC Bulletin, that Innes Ireland, the new BRDC President “has very fond memories of the (Goodwood) circuit, having won the Club’s coveted Brooklands Memorial Trophy there in 1957…” The only thing is, this was not a BRDC trophy but a Motor Sport trophy, which Mike Hawthorn is seen presenting to Innes in the above picture, with the then Editor looking on approvingly. The Trophy is still in existence, awarded annually to the driver of the pre-war car gaining the most points at VSCC race meetings.
