Historic rallying is back
Having had its 2001 season badly affected by Foot and Mouth disease, the Historic Rally Car Register has scheduled a nineevent calendar for the 2002 British Historic Rally Championship.
It starts in the Nottinghamshire forests in March and includes the Tour of Ypres, Belgium, in late June. Other events will include the Manx National Rally in May and forest events in Wales and Yorkshire.
The series will feature, too, the new Escort Mexico Cup, recalling the super-competitive Mexico Challenge of the early 1970s.
Chimay in use once again
Sixties saloons, Formula Junior and sportscars will battle on the Belgian road circuit of Chimay this year.
Barry Sidery-Smith is co-ordinating a threerace package that will form the highlight of Historic Car Chimay 2002 on July 6-7.
Regulations will be available from him (tel: 01932348466) from mid-February.
The Top Hat saloons will undertake a onehour, two-driver affair on the shortened version of the old GP des Frontieres track, while the Formula Juniors and FIA and RA-type sportscars will have 30-minute races.
