Saloons barred from Silverstone

Silverstone will not feature on the British Touring Car Championship calendar for the first time since the series was created in 1958.

Silverstone management has been unable to agree a date with series head Alan Gow. Instead one has been awarded to Rockingham.

Problems stem from the final round of 2006, when a bumper crowd resulted in traffic chaos and Gow was heavily critical of the circuit.

“It’s a shame that fans will not be able to watch the BTCC at Silverstone for the first time in its history,” said Richard Phillips, MD at Silverstone.
