American Coast to Coast Rally

We are informed from New York of the third win in the 4475-mile American Coast-to-Coast rally for antique and classic cars by Richard Burdick, navigated by Wayne Ball. They used the 1923 3-litre Bentley (above) bought at auction in 1984 and afterwards restored, with extra cooling to cope with desert heat, coil in place of magneto ignition, and raised oil pressure with external filters. Out and home, the mileage totalled 8950. The driver won $50,000. This is the car bought new by Sir Leonard Lyle, MP, with two-seater body by Chalmer and Hoyer and it has its original engine.
