Sports & prototypes – Porsche au Mans 1972-1981

Francois Hurel

Revised, and now in English, this is a cracking effort by the prolific Hurel who is rapidly becoming an authority on Le Mans. Concentrating on Porsches that ran in the premier category (so none from the lesser classes), it gives a race-by-race, entry-by-entry account of the Weissach marque’s attack on la Sarthe. It’s full of information, including first-hand accounts from the likes of Kremer Brothers’ crew chief Achim Stroth (under the heading ‘Bob Was Very Demanding’, referring to Wollek’s dislike of his team-mates when driving the 917 K81). If there is a criticism, it’s that a few things do get lost in the translation, but there’s little else to find fault with. RH
