Focus shifts for Derek Bell series

The HSCC plans to re-work the Derek Bell Trophy in 2009, switching the focus to historic Formula 5000 and F2 cars.

As F5000 marks its 40th anniversary in Britain, five or six mainly double-header race meetings will be run, with the club applying to the MSA for championship status for the series. For the first time Formula 1 cars will no longer be admitted, although few have raced in the series in recent seasons.

“There are a lot of people running Formula 2 cars in Britain, and interest in Formula 5000 is building all the time,” said the HSCC’s Grahame White.
