Rare TVR in UK race debut

July 7, 2014

A rare 1964 TVR 5000 has made what is thought to be the model’s UK race debut in the hands of former TVR boss Peter Wheeler.

Discovered in a barn last year and since restored, the Ford V8-engined car was an export model for North America and was never marketed in Europe. Wheeler gave the car its Heritage GT race debut at Brands Hatch in late October, partnered by former TVR press guru Ben Samuelson.

The car has been prepared by Lawfield Engineering and JGR Motorsport Preparation, companies based at the old TVR works in Blackpool.

Paul Lawrence

Here is a man who goes racing every weekend from March to October. Paul’s passion for the sport goes back to when he was a child of the 1960s. He has organised, competed in and marshalled on scores of events, and has written about the subject for 20 years. He is as at home in the paddock at Brands Hatch as in a Welsh forest or at Shelsley Walsh.
