The Automobiles Of London sale at Battersea Park was a strong sale for the Canadian firm, posting £11 million with 87 per cent of lots sold. Highlights of this sale included the competitive 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Lightweight racer at £110,000, the 1974 De Tomaso Pantera Group 4 racer at £159,500 and the 1950 Aston Martin DB2 team car featured in Motor Sport which sold for £550,000.

Additional lots included the 2006 Mercedes CLK GTR Roadster at £616,000 and a 2005 Mercedes CLK GTR coupé for £522,500. The ultra-rare 1963 ATS GT 3.0 coupé went for £308,000 and the 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C GS made £522,500. However, despite strong interest neither the 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra Competition nor a 1967 Lola T70 Mk3 went to new homes.

RM has announced a new European sale for 2010 in the form of ‘Sporting Classics Of Monaco’ in which a Pebble Beach award-winning 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Cabriolet currently headlines the sale.

The Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset was the setting for the sale on October 29. The 1930 Talbot 90 Fox and Nicholl team car sold well at £134,750. The new owners may wish to apply for an entry into next year’s Le Mans Classic event with it. The 1955 Jaguar XK140 SE Roadster made £39,600 and the 1989 Mini Moke, which had done a mere 1700 miles from new, sold for £8250.

Next up for H&H is the Pavilion Gardens sale in Buxton on December 9, which offers the third AC Ace to come up in three auctions. This particular example has been retro-fitted with a period 289ci Ford V8, but accompanying the car are the major components for the correct Bristol six-cylinder unit which could be re-instated (estimate £110-130,000). Other lots include the 1963 Maserati 3500GT Sebring at £30-35,000 and a 1913 Wolseley 16/20hp Laundelette at £45-50,000.

– Bonhams –

The annual London-Brighton sale held at the New Bond Street saleroom on October 30 showed strong interest in veteran cars, as the 1902 Panhard-Levassor 7hp Type A sold for a colossal £216,000 and the 1901 5hp Argyll Spindle Seat went for £136,800. We hope to see both cars on the 2010 London-Brighton run.

The end of year Olympia auction often yields a wide variety of cars, and the sale on December 7 has some early entries which include a 1906 Rolls-Royce Light 20 at £400-600,000, an elegant 1934 Bentley 3½ Drophead at £110-130,000 and a 1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster at £40-50,000.

– Coys –

Coys will celebrate its 90th anniversary with the True Greats sale at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London’s Victoria on December 1. The highlight of the sale is the collection of a noted vintage MG expert, Peter Gregory. A mixture of British and American vintage racers on offer include the 1934 MG K3 works lightweight chassis (£200-250,000), the ex-Milt Milton Frankhauser 1930 Miller Special (£25-35,000) and four Atalanta project cars, including a Jaguar-powered RGS coupé and a Lincoln V12-powered chassis. Further lots include a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing (£280-350,000) and the bright green 2005 Koenigsegg CCR, believed to be the only car finished in that colour, at £180-250,000.

– Gooding & Co –

The Scottsdale auction on January 23, 2010 in Arizona offers an exciting array of exotica. Headlining is the Jaguar D-type (XKD528) driven to victory by Ken Miles in the 1959 Pomona Six Hour Enduro, estimated at £2.2-2.5m. Another lot, the 1959 Ferrari 250GT Series 1 Cabriolet, is a rare alternative to a California Spyder (£1.3-1.6m), and for those who prefer something more vintage, there is a wonderful 1932 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 V Gran Sport with Zagato body (£725-900,000).

– Bonhams & Butterfields –

The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles was hosting the ‘Classic California, Important Motorcycles, Motorcars and Memorabilia’ sale on November 14, just as Motor Sport closed for press. A treat for Steve McQueen fans, the sale offered a plethora of McQueen memorabilia and vehicles including his 1949 Chevy 3100 pick-up (£12,500-18,000 with no reserve) and his 1940 Indian Chief Motorcycle (£33-40,000). The unusual-looking 1954 Bentley R-type special coupé with competition history was reckoned to fetch £120-136,000 and the 1956 Lotus 11 Series 1, complete with extensive European race history, was estimated at £72-85,000.
