The Toleman Story

July 7, 2014

Last Romantics in Formula 1
Christopher Hilton

It’s easy to forget how important the tiny Toleman team is in the landscape of modern F1. Rory Bryne, Pat Symonds, Ayrton Senna – they all cut their teeth with the team.

This tells the rags to riches tale of a family-run firm with no ambitions of greatness, just an old-fashioned idea of working hard and having fun. From Formula Ford with Rad Dougall, F2 success with Brian Henton and ultimately F1 with Derek Warwick and Senna, this is a roller-coaster mix of adventure, fist fights, tragedy and doing things the hard way.

The images and presentation aren’t of the highest quality, but it is a terrific story. DC
