Crookham Court School

It was a good idea for the Headmaster of Crookham Court School, Newbury, to co-operate with the Bean Car Club in having a gathering of vintage and p.v.t. cars in the school grounds during the evening of June 5th, so that the 75 pupils could photograph them and ask questions about them. The first arrivals consisted of Dudley Gahagan and the Editor of Motor Sport in the former’s 1926 Type 37 G.P. Bugatti and Denis Jenkinson in his 328 B.M.W., which effectively disorganised “prep”! In all, a dozen cars turned up, and a more varied selection it would be difficult to imagine, for they comprised a modern Bentley; a 1934-ish Austin Seven; a Swift Fourteen which gave the boys brief rides; Chalcroft’s 1923 M.A.G.-engined Morgan, the oldest known 4-seater 3-wheeler; a 2-seater bull-nose Morris-Cowley; Hutton-Stott’s 1913 Lanchester; a 16/95 Alvis saloon; a 1929 Hillman 14 coupé; a 1926 Bean 14 tourer, and a 9/20 Rover tourer. This instructive evening was most enjoyable and the idea might be adopted with advantage by other schools.
