Happy Porsche Owner

Sir,

Recently I was in the happy position of realising a lifetime’s ambition of purchasing a Porsche. Not only have all my expectations of owning and driving a model of this famous marque been amply justified but I feel moved to write to your excellent magazine to inform other prospective Porsche owners of the comprehensive and friendly service offered by the Hughes Motor Company at Haytesbury, Wiltshire.

I first contacted the Thomas brothers in January this year, and asked them to find me a superb late 2.4 or early 2.7 Targa 911S. After some six weeks, and having refused to sell me some cars they had, “because they would not meet my exacting standard”, I was informed by Graham Thomas that “my car” was ready for inspection. The car offered was indeed immaculate and reasonably priced. It was duly purchased and an excellent lunch, on Hughes, was taken at a local hostelry. The car, a 2.7 911S Targa, has subsequently proved to be superb, apart from a leaking oil tank, which was quickly replaced under guarantee. I also received an unexpected complementary copy of Paul Frere’s book “The 911 Story”, and the latest Porsche Owners’ Club magazine.

My point, Sir, is that in these days of high pressure instant salesmanship, it is most gratifying to be able to purchase a motor car from pleasant people in an informal, yet efficient manner, and furthermore, to know that a guarantee means what it says.

I have, needless to say, no connection with Geoff or Graham Thomas of Hughes Motor Company other than as a satisfied customer.

Henley-on-Thames, John R. Bareham.
