Seat design not improving?

Sir,

I was most interested to read the comment by Mr. D. Gear (Letters May 1977) that he did not have undue backache following a longish journey in his new Rover 3500.

During the weekend April 30th/May 1st 1977, I drove my 1925 Humber 12/25 tourer (original including seats and upholstery) from Bolton to Thame (Nr. Oxford) and back on the occasion of the Humber Register rally, the return journey non-stop, with no ill-effects whatever. I only wish I could drive my Triumph 2000 TC for half the distance without being crippled!

Is seat design even as good as it was 50 years ago, let alone better?
