Bugatti memories

Sir,

I like very much DSJ’s two pages of Bugatti on 668 and 669 of the May issue. He has captured an interesting assortment. The type 59 at the top of 669 I purchased from Fred Dixon and sold to CI Craig. The picture at the bottom of 668 featuring the start of the Lewes Sprint, shows the dents on the bonnet, which were caused at Wetherby the week before, when I lost the offside front wheel and swivel axle, due to the very hard Bugatti king pin shearing. The car rolled and the bonnet and radiator suffered. Also my crash-hat was dented and I still have it.

Whilst I found time to make a couple of king pins, there was not enough to attend to coachwork cosmetics before the Lewes event.
