The £1000 racing car

by Terry Cole. 111pp. 91/4 61/4. (GT Foulis & Co, Sparkford, Yeovil, Somerset BA22 7JJ £7.95).

Here is a little book full of advice for those starting out on a motor racing career, or who intend to do so. Some of it is rather superficial, even a thought childish (such as explanations of how valve-gear works) but most will be very helpful to the absolute novice building a competition car on a small budget and facing a race for the first time. Foulis has broken new ground by including coupons for discounts when buying selected motor-racing equipment or when making use of Thruxton’s Ian Taylor Racing Drivers School queries service, so the outlay is especially modest. Taylor wrote the foreword. WB

The Peugeot 205GTi is such a well-liked and popular car that it is no surprise to find that MRP, Unit 6, The Picton Estate, 46 Pitlake, Croydon, CRO 3RY has made it the subject of the newest in its The Enthusiast’s Companion series. The editor is Ray Hutton, the pages of varied information and pictures number 112, and the price is only £8.95. WB
