Delightful dingoes

Sir,

The remarks by DSJ on pre-selector gears took me right back over 40 years to my army days. I am sure many older readers will remember the Daimler armoured cars and Dingo scout cars with Wilson Pre-selector gears and fluid flywheel transmission. They were delightful to drive. The earlier Dingoes also had fourwheel steering (recently reinvented by the Japanese), but this was soon dropped —due l believe, to a spate of accidents. It was a Dingo of my regiment (The Royals) which was the first allied vehicle to reach Denmark the day before the war ended in May 1945. Incidentally, my troop officer was the late Michael Frostick.
