Jaguar's Le Mans luck

Sir,

Congratulation.s on the June issue of MOTOR SPORT, particularly the glossy Jaguar supplement. With reference to the article on the XJR-9, I too was at Le Mans in 1988. What I remember most, however, was the cheer that went up when the Bell/Stuck/Ludwig Porsche ran out of petrol.

Of course, once refuelled, it roared off after the Jaguar and no one thought more about it as such a minor delay was unlikely to affect the outcome of such a race. It was only when the Jag won by less than a lap that we saw how fortuitous this blunder had been.

I am, yours, etc. Giles Newton, Llanishen, Monmouthshire
