Dayton and Kumshick win F2 races

Historic racing does not come more frenetic than in the European F2 Club Trophy series which kicked off at Monza on 13-14 May.

Duncan Dayton won a mighty scrap with Fredy Kumshick’s Lotus 69. “I’ve been trying for five years to win one,” said the Brabham BT35 driver. “What a place to do it!”

Dayton’s car broke in race two, thus Kumshick had an easier time. Kumshick was out of luck when the circus reconvened at Silverstone two weeks later, however. He led both races, but when head gasket failure and a water leak respectively forced him out, Peter Stobinslti jinked out of his slipstream for a double win in his ex-Carlos Pace March 712. Briton John Pearson was second on aggregate in his March, while James Denty had to put in two blinding recovery drives after spins to claim the honours in the carburettoredengine class in his ex-Gordon Smiley Merlyn Mk21.
