John Handley

The 1968 European Touring Car Champion, and former BRDC chairman, has died after a short illness, aged 63.

Handley will be remembered primarily for his sterling performances in Minis, which he raced, rallied and rallycrossed with much success for the Broadspeed, Cooper and British Vita teams.

He stayed with touring cars during the ’70s, but underwent a sea change of a sort, being usually found at the wheel of some ‘Detroit iron’ or unwieldy Opel Commodores. He made a sporting return during the ’80s in historic rallying, with a Volvo PV544.
