Clive Wood won the second Classic FF2000 round from a capacity grid at Thruxton (right). Racing his Van Diemen RF82 on home ground, the former F3 racer saw off the challenge of young pretender Oliver Hancock.

Another racing veteran — Simon Davey — claimed Classic FF1600 spoils. He just beat David Penlington in the final drag race out of the chicane to the flag.

Stacy Vickers, on an occasional outing in his Mazda RX-7, took a brace of wins in the Classic Group 1 and Pre-93 Touring Car races. However, the Opel Ascona of local man David Hickton was a constant threat in second place.

French raider Gérard Faber bagged another Classic Thunder win in his bellowing Chevrolet Camaro, while Malcolm Jackson celebrated 40 years of Clubmans racing by winning the Classic Clubmans season opener in his Mallock Mk20B.
