Hawthorn cars on parade

The life of Mike Hawthorn, Britain’s first World Champion, will be celebrated at Oulton Park on Saturday June 14 in the annual VSCC Hawthorn Memorial meeting.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Hawthorn winning the 1958 title, the VSCC is gathering together a number of ex-Hawthorn cars, either to race or take part in a lunchtime parade. During the racing, the Hawthorn Spanish and Memorial trophies will be contested by pre-60 GP cars, while local veteran Alan Minshaw will defend his Hawthorn Trophy in his Maserati Birdcage. Hawthorn first raced at Oulton Park in 1955, in a Ferrari.
