The teams’ view on costs

John Howett (Toyota): “We have saved huge costs through FOTA’s activities. We’ve saved 35-40 per cent already, and I believe the show is as good as it’s ever been. It’s not only about costs, it’s about maintaining the value and reason for F1, and as a big corporation you need to have the right reason to be associated with the sport. We need to be sure and secure that this is the right environment to remain in.”

Nick Fry (Brawn): “The Brawn team from its own perspective is clearly in favour of a limited budget formula. Clearly we’re not as big as the other teams now. We’ve got an adequate budget, but it’s nothing like what it was last year. But we’re balanced enough to understand that we’ve got to find a formula that works for everybody. We want to be racing against Ferrari and Mercedes and Toyota, and we need their support in F1.”

Ferrari statement: “The same rules for all teams, stability of the regulations, the continuity of FOTA’s endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of F1 are the priorities for the future. If these indispensable principles are not respected, and if the regulations adopted for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter its cars in the next F1 World Championship.”
