Waldegård back in Merc for Ypres

July 7, 2014

Swedish rally ace Bjorn Waldegård will renew his old association with Mercedes when he drives a classic 500SLC from Silver Arrows Racing in the Ypres Historic Rally at the end of June.

The preparation company run by Bart Vanhaverbeke has invited the 66-year-old to the Belgian event. He will be co-driven by Denis Giraudet.

“It will remind me of the 1970s when I drove for the Mercedes factory team in the World Rally Championship,” said Waldegård (pictured left in our events diary). “The car got a lot of interest then and I’m sure it will on Ypres, too.”

He is as at home in the paddock at Brands Hatch as in a Welsh forest or at Shelsley Walsh.
