VSCC season springs to life

Alarge crowd came to sunny Silverstone in April for the VSCC’s Spring Start meeting, where Mark Walker made a hit with the 1905 200hp LSR Darracq. Rod Jolley took the Lindsay/Rothschild trophy despite losing a wheel in practice, the Fox & Nicholl event went to Richard Pilkington’s Talbot T26SS and Enrico Spaggiari (Cooper T53) took the laurels home to Italy after the invitation HGPCA race.

During lunch we retired to the Fox & Nichol garage – otherwise known as Pit 5, where an excellent display of cars and photos celebrated F&N’s pre-war successes with Talbots of all types. Here Deputy Editor Gordon Cruickshank presented Mac Hulbert with the Motor Sport Brooklands Memorial Trophy for his 2009 performances in R4D, Riley ‘Blue Streak’ and Silver Eagle Alvis. Mark Gillies and Robert Cobden placed second and third, while Dougal Cawley and Jonathan Cobb tied for fourth.
