Once again the daily press contains the usual grossly misleading large advertisements put out by the Ford Motor Company in connection with their efforts in the recent East African Safari Rally.
You will no doubt, have noted that the new Zodiac Mark III “triumphs,” and had a “sensational victory”? I suggest that the Ford Advertising Department acquires a Standard Dictionary and then studies the meaning of these two words.
The sensational victory was without doubt that of the Volkswagen, of about one half the cubic capacity and one third of the bhp of the new Zodiac, which was designed over twenty years ago. I think Fords should be taken to task for the way in which they always seem to try to mislead the general public in their advertisements and I believe in giving credit where it is due. One wonders if they will put a similar advertisement in the next issue of Motor Sport to provide hilarious amusement for the knowledgeable and particularly those who are sensible enough to own VWs (my third).
