Bayliss-Thomases

Sir,

You refer to my Bayliss Thomas which appeared on the cover of the February Issue of Motor Sport quite correctly as not being the ex-Hayward car. However, my car was a regular competitor in pre-war MCC long distance trials and is the car pictured in The Pocket Book of Vintage Cars actually taking part in such a trial. I know nothing of the car’s performance before the war in these trials and would be pleased to hear from anyone who might remember TT 2010 taking part.

The ex-Hayward car which you picture in the current April issue appears to be an earlier model. My car has the Meadows 4EB power unit which was not available on the earlier models.

There are about six Bayliss Thomas cars known but mine seems to be the only one which has seen use recently. I regret that it is currently oft the road since, on our return from Sidmouth after the Exeter trial, we ran the big-ends when nearly home and I have not yet had chance to rectify this.

It was delightful to see a vintage car on the cover of Motor Sport which not only summed up the timelessness of the MCC trials but of the enjoyment which we all find within the pages of your magazine.
