Dead slow and stop

As an add-on to your article on Jaguar disc brakes, I well remember being told of an early exchange on the subject by the Godfather of the then Chief Car Engineer at Rolls-Royce, Guy Knowles. They had an enquiry from Chrysler, asking how they did their drum brakes. In replying, Rolls asked “why did you give up the disc brake?” Answer: “because we could not get over the slow speed stop!”
