Sports-racers break cover at test day

Two rare sports-racing cars from different eras broke cover at the Masters pre-season test day at Donington after complete rebuilds.

David Wenman has had the unique 1958 Selway sports-racer (left, top) totally rebuilt by Bob Egginton and plans to race it in the BRDC Historic Sports series as it competes in Europe for the first time. Built by David Selway in Los Angeles, the Chevrolet-powered car has not raced since the early 1970s. “Everything was there, but in a shabby state,” said Wenman.

Meanwhile, the 1975 Vogue SP2 is back out after 20 years in a barn. It was formerly raced by David Mercer and has now been rebuilt for Proto 70s races by Mark Williams.
