Cholmondeley to honour 'Wheatie'

July 7, 2014

The life of Tom Wheatcroft, who died last October, will be celebrated at this year’s Cholmondeley Pageant of Power on July 17/18.

Three Vanwalls will be the key attractions in a special tribute to the Donington Park owner and Grand Prix car collector (above). The Vanwalls will run on the speed course at the Cheshire venue, while other cars will be on show at the event that Wheatcroft supported in its first two years.

The trio of Vanwalls will be the streamliner used at Reims, the rear-engined model that ran abortively in 1961 and the original Thinwall Special. Other cars on show will include a BRM V16 and Alberto Ascari’s World Championship-winning Ferrari 500.

Paul Lawrence

Here is a man who goes racing every weekend from March to October. Paul’s passion for the sport goes back to when he was a child of the 1960s. He has organised, competed in and marshalled on scores of events, and has written about the subject for 20 years. He is as at home in the paddock at Brands Hatch as in a Welsh forest or at Shelsley Walsh.
