VW merits.

Sir,
In reply to Mr. McKinley, might I say that I rode many miles in Germany in the back seat of a Volkswagen without feeling uncomfortable, although I am over six feet tall.

While I am on the subject, I must say that I am rather mystified by the road-test speeds of two weekly magazines. The model in which I rode was credited with a mean speed of 62 m.p.h. by one magazine and 62.8 m.p.h. by the other. Although the instruction book recommended that 100 k.p.h. should not be exceeded, on the autobahn I saw speedometer readings of up to 120 k.p.h. (74 m.p.h.). I realise that the speedometer was probably optimistic but surely not by as much as nearly 20 per cent. ?

I am, Yours, etc.,

Ruislip. P.R. Stoker.
