The VW K70

While Volkswagen’s sales remain buoyant in foreign markets, particularly Britain and South America, in Germany sales have sagged as the Beetle enters old age, having just overtaken the Model-T Ford as the world’s most produced model. Introduced to Britain in right-hand-drive form late last month was the car Volkswagen hope will revive their fortunes. VW have put the K70 into production virtually as originally conceived by NSU. It is thus the first VW with a watercooled front-mounted engine driving through the front wheels. Inboard front discs are an interesting feature and the attractive body naturally shows a family resemblance to the NSU Ro80.
