Daytona 24 Hours

Reigning champions Lancia brought two 1.4 litre Montecarlos to Daytona for the first time. Only one of the factory cars finished, the Michele Alboreto driven Lancia (above) retiring with engine problems. American champion John Fitzpatrick (below) also retired his Porsche 935 with drive-shaft failure.

Congratulations. Britian’s Brian Redman (above, left) and Derek Bell shake hands after their one-two Daytona win.  Making its debut at Daytona was the Firestone backed McLaren Mustang (below). On road tyres it finished 21st following an engine change after the 2-litre Cosworth went off song.
