History repeating

The 1990 Michelin Red Guide to Great Britain and Ireland.
701pp. Michelin Tyre plc, Davy House, Lyon Road, Harrow, Middlesex HA1 2DQ. £8.75.
Just one of the extensive range of Michelin’s 1990 collection of maps and guides, this small yet comprehensive hardback contains information on 5,146 establishments for both the constant and occasional traveller. Hotels and restaurants to suit all pockets are listed here, with symbols to show the services available, and each place has been selected for its merits. The book also contains 99 town plans, garage and tyre information and distances between major towns. This is a highly recommended traveller’s guide and should be an essential addition to everyone’s overnight bag. Michelin also produce road atlases and maps covering Europe and Africa, Red Guides to Greater London and other main European cities, and Green Tourist Guides for several countries, some of which are cross-referenced in the Red Guide To Britain and Ireland. Well worth checking out — they’ll certainly save the usual travelling headaches. SS
